Barkitecture is a unique pet furniture design competition, Barkitecture invites architects, designers and pet-loving DIYers to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship, while providing the public an opportunity to admire and bid on their creations. Submissions will be showcased in high-visibility public venues before the winning bidders bring them home. All funds raised go to Joy Collaborative.

TEAMS This is an open competition with twenty five (25) slots available. Joy Collaborative Barkitecture committee members will select the short list of finalists who will then build their entries for the event. An entry template is available on the Barkitecture website. All submissions must include: 1) Entry title 2) A 250 word maximum concept statement 3) Three sketches (hand drawn or digital) including L x W x H dimensions 4) Three inspiration photos 5) A one-page specification of proposed materials used 6) Roster of design team (youth category must include one parent or one adult 21+) 7) Logos, websites and/or hashtags (if applicable
Calling all creatives! Joy Collaborative is inviting you to create fun, functional and/or wildly creative spaces for dogs & cats. Treat our furry friends to spaces they will bring them joy. The following are baseline criteria required for acceptance into the competition. Consider indoor environmental quality with safe and sustainable material use. Consider durability, cleanability and ease of transport for your design. To enter, complete the Barkitecture submissions template on the Registration page (link above). Entries must keep to the submission’s framework and limits; be ferociously creative but please be mindful that no exceptions are allowed. Overall dimensions are not to exceed 48” wide x 48” deep x 60” high and fit through a 36”w doorway. Others have 60x60x60 Weight limit is 200 pounds. No permanent logos.[Document title] Early Entries to be used for media coverage and public display will be picked up by Joy Collaborative. Other pre-event display sites are TBD but will be within the Twin Cities Metro at premier
Finnegan’s will allow a footprint of 60” x 60” for display of each item to include a Barkitecture- provided floor sign. Entrants are free to stage with non flammable materials that do not protrude beyond the vertical dimension. Please keep items secured as they are displayed in public spaces. For light weight and small entry items please let us know if a display pedestal is preferred. Cat tower display partitions must be provided by the designer. Public access to these entries will be restricted.
The 2021 Joy Collaborative Barkitecture Awards will be presented at a live awards program onsite at Finnegan’s Brew Co. and virtually online. Winners will have the opportunity to give a short acceptance speech. Winners will receive the 2021 Barkitecture Award Trophy and be featured in future promotion videos. Award categories are:
