A Young Girl's Wish: Imagine Theater

One of the youngest heart transplant patients at the University of Minnesota just had a wish come true in the most incredible way. Thanks to a partnership between Joy Collaborative,
Make-A-Wish Minnesota, and an amazing group of volunteers, the “Imagine Theater” was built—a one-of-a-kind performance bunkhouse for this resilient kiddo.
What a journey this child has been on! Not only did they undergo multiple heart surgeries, but they also lost half a lung during COVID. To see their child not only survive but thrive—and receive a gift like this—was something the family never could’ve imagined.
Completed in August 2024, the “Imagine Theater” is everything a young performer could dream of. It’s got space for rehearsing and performing musicals for friends and family, a wardrobe and makeup station, bunkhouse-style hangout areas for crafts or just chilling, big windows to let in the breeze and connect with nature, and a cozy getaway space where friends can play, dream, and create together.
This is the fifth Wish project between Joy Collaborative and Make-A-Wish Minnesota. (The last one? An award-winning treehouse in East Bethel for a kid with cystic fibrosis!) It’s moments like these that remind us how powerful community can be.
More than 30 volunteers worked through scorching summer heat, shifting vacation schedules to make sure every little detail of this project was just right for this special Wish kid. And the verdict? “It’s more than I ever imagined, and every detail is perfect. My favorite part? IT’S PINK!”
